Moving
is a major life transition full of mixed emotions for children and parents. Here's a tip
that will help you help your child(ren) through this period of roller coaster feelings and
changes in their everyday life.
Share the news of your move as soon as you can. Be prepared for a variety of responses.
Listen and acknowledge the feeings your children share with you. Acknowledge your own
feelings, and clearly explain why the move needs to happen.
Have the children work on a old home/new home picture. Divide a piece of paper in
half with a picture of your old home on the left and a picture of the new home on the
right. On the left have them list things that they like about your home. On the
right have them list the things that you already know you will like about the new home and
save space to add additional items as you settle in.
